01 · Learn the controls

Navigating the Menu

Use the joystick to control the system:

Up / DownBrowse menu options
SelectConfirm your choice
LeftGo back to the previous screen
RightGet help on the selected item

Backup Options

02 · Choose how you back up

Just Copy

Need a quick backup? This option copies everything from the source drive to the destination drive, inside a folder named just-backup.

Connect a source disk via USB.
If it has multiple partitions, choose the one containing your files.
Connect a destination disk.
Select a partition for the destination (if multiple partitions exist).
Review the summary screen and confirm to start the copy.
Watch the progress bar as files are copied.
Once done, a message confirms success or failure.

Dated Copy

Prefer organized backups? This mode saves files inside a dated-backup folder, with subfolders based on file dates (MM-DD-YYYY). The steps are the same as Just Copy, but files are arranged by date.

Copy History

Want to check past backups? Scroll through the last 5 copy sessions using the Up/Down buttons. Press Left to return to the menu.

03 · Check storage and health

Disk Info

Curious about available storage? This menu shows total and free space for each USB partition.

Browse drivesUse Up/Down to see all connected drives.
Go backPress Left to return to the menu.

Disk Check

Want to verify disk health? Select a USB partition to check for issues.

Browse drivesScroll with Up/Down.
Run checkPress Select to begin.

WebUI Backup

04 · Control it from your browser

Need more control? The WebUI provides an easy interface via WiFi.

Select WebUI Backup from the menu.
The system starts a WiFi hotspot, showing the SSID and password.
Press Select to generate a QR code.
Scan the QR code to open the WebUI.

Home PageSelect source and destination disks.
HistoryView past backups.
StatusCheck current copy progress.
Day/Night ModeToggle between light and dark themes.

Copying Files via WebUI

Select a source disk and destination disk, then click Mount Disks.
Choose folders to copy (folder sizes are displayed in GB).
Optionally, create or delete folders in the destination.
Click Copy Now to start the backup.
Watch the progress bar and see the last 5 files being copied.
After completion, return to the selection screen.

Want to check your software version? This menu shows the installed version and the last update date.

Updating the System

Purrfect Backup system update screen — Update — apply the latest firmware

Keep your system up to date with the latest features!

Download the update file from gurdyalsingh.com/purrfectbackup.
The update file follows this format: backup-data.tar.vX.XX.gpg (e.g., backup-data.tar.v2.01.gpg).
Copy the update file to the root of a USB drive.
Plug in the USB and follow the on-screen menu to apply the update.
The system will reboot automatically after updating.

Set Time

Traveling tip: Don’t want to carry your Purrfect Backup in carry-on luggage? Unplug the coin battery and safely check it into your luggage. Once you reconnect the battery, use this menu to set the correct time, date, and timezone again.
